Meetings, Schmeetings

I'm curious to know who had the first "meeting". I can understand their purpose. To gather people together to discuss things as a group. What I don't understand is who decided to have one that was more than an hour long? I like to think that I have a pretty long attention span. But..when it comes to sitting and listening to one person talk for 2 hours straight, I start to lose it. I tend to doodle, practice my handwriting, and dream about what it would be like to actually put toothpicks in my eyelids to keep them open.

A note for the person hosting the meeting. After a while, you will notice that everyone begins to look down, and their eyes start glazing over. This is a good time for a break, or a chance to summarize your points, and set us free. After approximately 1.5 hours of listening to your voice, no one cares anymore. No one is listening, and I'm sure you have better things to do with your time. I don't necessarily, but I would rather be by myself than stuck in a room with 10 other people.
