Baby Showers
WHY?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Right now, I could probably name at least 10 people that are either pregnant or just had babies. Some may be people over the computer, but still. I guess I'm past the stage where everyone's getting married, and now everyone is having babies.
I wish I didn't have to talk to any of my friends/acquaintances. Everybody is on my nerves, and they keep inviting me to things I don't want to go to. I have been able to get out of them, I just feel like a sucky friend. On the good side, they already know I'm a sucky friend so it's cool. hee hee.
Today's vent is about my cousin. She is the daughter of my uncle, who died several years ago. My family and their family never really talked much. We would see each other every now and again, and it wasn't a big deal. We're always cordial. My mom and my aunt went to school together and they NEVER liked each other. I guess that's why we don't have a great relationship now that my uncle isn't around anymore. Anyway..my cousin got married a couple years ago in the summer. Since it's summer, and I hardly know the girl, I didn't go. I think my younger sister missed the wedding too, but I have no idea.
So last night I found out that my cousin is having a baby shower at the Dupont Country Club in Wilmington on my grandmother's birthday. Their family never hangs out with my grandmother. They want us to go to the shower because we can drive Mom-mom there and back, and they won't have to be bothered. I'm not even sure Mom-mom knows about it. They know that we always spend time with Mom-mom on her birthday, and I think this was a ploy to get us to the shower. Once Mom-mom finds out about it, she'll want to go. I think now my mom is devising her own plans for that weekend, and she'll somehow get out of going and taking Mom-mom. I'm all for the new plan.
If I did have to go to the shower, I was going to get a card, and write '20 dollars was given to Mom-mom in lieu of a gift for you and your baby.' How mean am I? HA!!HA!! If you can have a baby shower at a country club, you can't seriously expect your poor grandmother to give you anything when she can't even afford her own stuff.
And I also just realized that the Shamrock Run that I signed up for is also on Mom-mom's birthday. So...I'll either have to hang out with her the day before her bday or the night of the Shamrock Run. I'll figure something out. STOP HAVING BABIES EVERYONE!!!

OH! I am SO with you on this one!! I hate baby showers with a passion! They are all a ploy to get as many people there as possible JUST for the stupid gifts. The mom-to-be rarely spends time with the guests - instead she sits @ the front of the room opening her gifts while the guests sit there bored out of their minds watching - YAWN! Then she devises a plan for what she'll return so she can get something she'd rather have or just for the extra cash!
Sorry - I hate baby showers!!
HA! Tell us how you really feel, Krystyn. :)
I'm so with you. I was telling my coworker that for some reason, I get SO fired up inside when the word "shower" is ever used in a sentence. ;)
