My Orientation
Yesterday was finally my big day. I went to orientation and listened to the lady talk about our purpose and the goals of the program, etc..I was the youngest person there (out of 6), and we all had to say why we were motivated to teach/volunteer.
I told the people that I was flipping through the schedule of classes since I usually take a class, but I decided that since I had no life, instead of taking a class this time around, I would spend my time, and not my money, teaching/volunteering. The class laughed. The other people were about to retire, or were retired, and wanted something to fill up their spare time. One lady said she was tired of ignorant people speaking incorrect English and thought she should help instead of complain. I liked her. I always say, don't talk about it, be about it, and she is.
In the end, I decided that I would help at a math class on Monday nights. Everyone can teach English, or life skills, but not everyone can (or wants to) teach math. I'm so excited. There will be an official teacher in the class, and I will be the volunteer who floats and helps individuals. The coordinator asked me, 'How are your algebra skills?' Me, being so cocky, said 'Excellent.' HA!!HA!!
Tip of the day-Whenever you are at an interview and know you can do the job, don't be a silly girl and be shy and downgrade yourself. If you're the best, tell them you're the best. It works well. Guys do it all the time. Just listen to them in everyday life. They "know it all" AND get paid for it too.
