What's a girl to do?

Yesterday I walked down the street to get a gyro platter from the local subshop. As I was walking to the sidewalk, a young man was already walking on the sidewalk. He was singing and rapping and just having a grand old time. I got behind him because he was walking in the same direction as I was. I felt kind of strange walking two paces behind him, and I thought about my options. Should I quickly pass him and keep going? Should I cross the street so I'm not so close to him? Should I strike up a conversation since we're both going in the same direction? I was really torn. I thought that if I was in front, I wouldn't want somebody walking right behind me (personal space issues), so I crossed the street. It sure was a tricky situation. So few people walk anymore I guess there isn't a current protocol for it. *shrug*
