The Lion King

Parting is such sweet sorrow. Last night was the last show of this year's season at the Hippodrome. The show was "The Lion King" and it was absolutely outstanding. I don't even know all the big words to describe it, but it was excellent. I now know why people were wrapped around the building in order to buy tickets. I don't want to give anything away, but the singing and costumes were out of this world. I have never seen any costumes made the way these were made.

I guess people hear from their friends in NY that if 'The Lion King' gets to your city, you HAVE to go see it. I don't know how everyone knew it was going to be awesome. Oh..maybe they read the reviews in all the big newspapers. My mother was more excited about going than I was, but I'll call her today and tell her she is really in for a treat. For 250 bucks for two tickets she already knows she's in for a treat. The things I do for that woman (ha ha). I will tell her to take my dad too because I'm not sure if that is her intention, but he would love it.

You would think that it would be really difficult to make a cartoon into a play, but somehow, these actors/dancers/singers really pulled it off. I told Ed that I guess this week is our tribute to Africa week since we saw the Lion King and Hotel Rwanda in the same week. Ed loves when women wear headwraps. He's all about them for some reason. Maybe because it's something he could never do and look like a normal member of society. hee hee. (silly visual there) One part of the show has these women wearing white dresses, and fake birds on their headwrap and they have fake birds on their arms. They are moving their arms up and down so that it looks like the birds are flying. Ed whispered to me "that's what you should wear for a wedding dress." I said "oh, definitely, the bird veil would look o gorgeous ." Sometimes I think he's ridiculous. hee hee. It was a cool costume, but a costume. Enough wedding talk. Blech! He scares me when he says stuff like that.

I hope they don't screw up our tickets for next season. It seems it's hard to keep track of the seating for people in a million different cities, and a million different renewal times. I should work for the theater. If anyone's interested in finding out if a city near you has a theater, go to www.broadwayacrossamerica.com. It's money SO well spent.
