Marketing at its best
My boyfriend Ed is a total sucker for advertisements. Ever since I met him, he has been oohing and aahing over almost every commercial that's on tv. First, let me preface this by saying he's a huge tv/movie fan, so he's in front of the tv a lot. I'd rather play on the computer or read a book, but he likes the tele. If there is a commercial for Jeep flying out of a volcano and then driving away, he's like 'that's a great jeep! It's so powerful.' Then, if the Eggland Best egg commercial comes on he says 'I have to try those eggs. They've been showing a lot of commercials for them. They must be good.' Every single commercial he sees, he has to have that item, right then and there. I just laugh because who really falls the commercials? There is one on now with Suze Orman, the financial guru. She talks about how if you buy one GM car, you can get your next GM car at the same either low or zero interest rate. No matter when you buy it, etc.. So Ed says 'that's a great deal! I should get a GM so that the next one I buy, I can get 0% interest.' Here's my take on the commercial. I see Suze walking through the bank talking about how great the deal is. Then, she steps outside and there is a Chrysler of some sort parked right in front of the bank. She walks past the car and off to the side of the screen mumbling something about smart money. Now, I see Suze, the financial advisor, walking AWAY from the car. If it's that great of a deal, how come she doesn't get in the car and drive away in it? She doesn't believe in the product. She probably has a Corolla in the next parking space, or she's parked in some free parking lot somewhere. See...I know there is a trick. You probably have to buy a GM car within 5 years or so for the deal to be valid. If the car doesn't last more than 5 years, why should you buy it in the first place? AHA! I'm smarter than the people that made up the commercial. Beware of the tricky advertisements people. Everyone is out to get you!!!!!!

Not to be a pain in the behonkey, but Chrysler doesn't actually belong to the GM family. And Suze is a paid spokesperson. Anytime you see any psuedo celebrity trying to tell you how great ANYTHING is, you must be aware that they are paid for the endorsement. It does not actually mean that the person actually owns/uses/believes in the product. Its just the way the marketing world works.
My husband & I both work in advertising, and he is the biggest sucker of them all, for the worst kind of commercials on the planet - infomercials! He loves Ron Popeil & his Ronco products.
As you can see, I have no idea what brand of car she's talking about OR what brand of car is sitting out front. There is an SUV type and a sedan type.
I just think that it would be better if she got into the car. We all know the spokespeople don't necessarily believe in the product. I think that's a given.
...everyone *is* out to get you...!
