I'm going to Sturgis, SD

It's official!!! Ed and I will be going to Sturgis, South Dakota for the 65th Anniversary of the Sturgis Bike Week (or the Sturgis Rally). I'm so excited.

I got a new atlas for Christmas because my old one was falling apart. I do like the old one because I have my routes highlighted in pink, yellow and green pens, but it's always time for something new (I suppose). Ed has a few high points that he would like to check off his list, so we're going a different route than most people would probably take. I am thinking I will take two weeks off (like I normally do), but we'll probably only be at the rally for a couple days. There's so much to explore out there, why bother hanging around in bars with strangers for hours? The route we're taking is west out of MD into OH. I would like to stop in Canton at the Football Hall of Fame, but I'm not sure if someone else is into it. I may have to take my own route. hee hee. Then, we're heading north through Michigan to the upper peninsula. There is a high point on that peninsula. From there, we'll be taking a 4.5 hour ferry (I think that's how long it takes) to Minnesota to get that high point, west to ND to that high point and then south to South Dakota's high point and the rally. I would like to stop at North Platte, Nebraska on the way back. I read a book called "Once Upon a Town" about the people of North Platte coming together to help the soldiers in WWII by providing them with food, birthday cakes, songs, letters etc.., so it seemed like a cool place to visit. It's probably a ghost town, but I still would like to stop there.

The only other issue I'm having is that I told my cousin (who is getting married), and the rest of the family, that I would go to family reunion this year (I haven't been in a long time). Here's the problem-it's in St. Louis, MO. That is way south of where we're going, and I don't think we could even make a plan to include a visit when everyone else is there. I'm the worst family member. hee hee. I might just have to swing by either before the reunion or right after just to say hi. It's still 8 months away so maybe I'll figure something out. Time will tell.
