Taxes Today
I have received all my tax information and today I'm going to see my dad and get my taxes filed. My dad has a part time job at H&R Block. He's retired and decided that he would like to do taxes in his spare time. Why? I'm not sure. I really think he just likes using the computer and talking to new people. He is very friendly and likes to impart his ways of the world and knowledge with those that haven't had as many experiences as he has. I think I take after him in that respect. I may have a face that looks serious and mean, but once someone talks to me, I'm always pleasant (well, 90% of the time).
I'm excited to see my dad, but I'm not excited about seeing how much money I'll have to pay the government. I think this year I finally filled out my forms the right way so that I won't be getting thousands back, but I might have to pay. Last year I think I owed the state a few dollars and I received a good amount from the feds. We'll see what happens this year. My dad is weird when he's talking to me about my taxes. He gets mad that I don't give any money to church, and then he gets mad when I get a lot of money back because it's not good. You should be able to figure out your taxes so that there is neither a refund nor a payment due. Of course, that's in a perfect world, and not where we live. I do give to charity and I do give to goodwill. I usually get some of the college interest loan credit back and I think I get some other credits, but I can't recall them now.
The best thing about getting your taxes done is that if you are getting a refund, and you do the e-file/direct deposit, you get your money in a couple days. If I owe, I don't have to pay until April, and they can take the payment automtically. I think that's great. C'mon big money, big money *clap clap clap*(I love game shows!).

i'm just glad that steve does the taxes. the last time my dad did them, he screwed up and i ended up owing... damn it.
Good luck to you.
I always get money back because of all the taxes I paid on my home, but since I sold it last summer I'm not sure how things are going to work out for me now. Yikes.
Big money! Big money!
*crosses fingers*
Wow, I'm jealous. I wish my dad was a tax guy. You don't know how lucky you are. Seriously. Well, hope you get money back.
The end of the tax year is the only time I seem to have friends. I suddenly get all these phone calls "Hey, Ian - you're an accountant. I was just wondering if you could maybe..."
Thanks for the well wishes.
From the update you can see I was pretty happy with my return.
They had a new thing where you can claim sales tax or something. I don't really understand it, but I guess it helped.
