The Contender
Have you guys seen the ads for this show? It's been advertised since the finale of the last Apprentice. I wasn't looking forward to watching it because I'm not into boxing really, but last night I decided to go to bed at 9:30. I had a long day of riding, and I knew if I stayed up late I wouldn't be happy today.
I turned on the tv and that show was on, so I thought I'd check it out. The contestants were just coming into the gym and scoping everybody out. I've never really thought too many boxers were cute (except De La Hoya), but some of these guys were mmm..mmm..yummy, so I continued watching. They divided them into east versus west based on where they live and they live and train together at this "contender gym." They had a challenge and the showoff guy from some country didn't pay attention to the signs, so he ended up losing the challenge for his team. I liked that he sucked. hee hee. The team that won (the East, the yellow team) got to pick a fighter to fight one person on the West (blue team). Well an average guy, 10-2, Alfonso Gomez, picked the top guy on the West (Peter Manfredo, Jr. (21-0)). I think the yellow team was concerned, but if Gomez wanted to fight the dude, why should they stop him. Everyone was claiming that the East had better fighters than the West in a general sense, but how would a normal Jane like me know that. So I was hooked. Manfredo was tall, had big muscles, and looked tough all around. Gomez was short, not very muscular but had a ton of confidence (I liked that about him). Manfredo was freaking out mentally so I had a feeling things wouldn't be good for him just because of his state of mind.
The first round, Gomez was the king. The second was Manfredo. The third round was Gomez, fourth, even. Finally, the last round Gomez came out with all he had and won the match. My toes were squirming, I was hiding my eyes, but I kept watching. It really was a great match.
I read on MSN that one of the contestants committed suicide. I'm not sure if this happened during the taping but I notice that they don't really show him a lot on the show. It seems like it's difficult to be on the show, but it was great! I guess I'll watch again this Thursday after Apprentice. "It's not a reality show, it's a human drama." HA!!HA!! I have sucker written on my forehead in case you were wondering.
