Yay for the Irish!
I had so much fun on St. Patrick's day. I got a cute, tight tshirt the day before that was green and had some lady's face on it. I'm glad I bought it. I got the stamp of approval from YB and Spacebrain before I left work, so I knew I'd be a-ok.
I started out meeting Mr. High Society and some of Ryan's friends at the Knotty Pine. That's the local bar with the creepy old men. I didn't see the Members Only jacket guy, but that was a good thing. I think they had 1.50 beer specials for a while, so I mostly had Miller Lites. The boys were drinking Guinness and doing Irish Car Bombs, and having all sorts of fun. I ended up getting a sticker that said 'Don't touch me. I'm not Irish' from one of Mr. High Society's friends. I thought it was nice that he offered me a sticker. "Coach"-the owner of the bar-gave me a Guinness glow in the dark button, and I got a few free drinks from the locals that recognized me. It ruled. Oh, one guy was totally telling me how to score with Will Demps. That was a funny conversation. HA!!HA!! A couple girls met up with us, and one of them was wearing a ton of foundation. Those kind of girls really make me nervous. I'm not a big makeup person, but when you see that someone has on a lot, you wonder what's underneath. Well, I do, at least. She was a little nutty, but nice enough. The other girl asked me about my ring and whether it got caught in my hair. I told her I don't mess with my hair that much, so I couldn't give her an honest answer. I hope she doesn't think I was blowing her off.
So, the girls showed up and we headed down to Canton Square (basically Irishtown). Mr. High Society and I caught a cab because I wasn't walking with my thin tshirt, and my high heeled boots (ha ha). When we got down there, we had to wait for everyone else. I struck up a conversation with the mounted police. One of the police officers was at the Hippodrome the night they had their movie, and the horse pooped on stage. We reminisced about that for a moment, and everyone else caught up with us. The bars were too crowded and the boys and I went to Sonar, the dance club. Sonar has tons of "independent" type people. Everyone wears black, or whatever they feel like-green hair, black hair, red hair, eyeliner, gay, straight, Chuck Taylors, lace stockings, etc..Just a wide mix of people: youngish, young, me (HA!!HA!!). So the club is dark, and everyone's dancing. I was the beacon with my BRIGHT GREEN Guinness button. I felt a little out of place, but whatever. I tried to dance, but by the end of the night, those stupid heels were killing my feet. We left, and the boys and I headed back to Ryan's house. I ended up going home several hours later, and my St. Patty's Day 2006 was over. I haven't celebrated like that in years. It was a great time!
Saturday morning Ed and I went to the Red Cross and got our CPR and first aid certifications. There were people sleeping in the class, and listening to their headphones and talking on their cellphones during the movie segments. They were weird. We got home around 3, and I slept the rest of the night away.
Sunday morning I woke up around 6, watched 'The Gift' and then got ready for church. My new church is so cool. No matter what time you get there before 10, they invite you to Sunday school. I was asked to read one passage. :) Plus, if you go to Sunday school, you get a starlight mint. Yum.
Sunday afternoon, Ed and I visited Crazy Erin. She has a big, puffy belly. I have to get her some baby stuff. She's freaking out about her maternity leave, if she has some, because her work is a non-profit, and she doesn't know how long her boss will let her take off from work. I know that once she has the baby, she's not going to want to go back to work, BUT, she and her new husband need the money. I figure I can get her some huge boxes of detergent (is liquid or powder better for kids?), and some books or something and maybe some diapers. If you have any tips on what babies need that people don't think of, let me know. Otherwise, she's doing great. We had a nice lunch, and watched 'The Producers.' Then we left. Good times.
