Look Mom, no headlights!
Saturday night I was riding home from West Chester and Ed told me that I didn't have a headlight. I flipped on my turn signals and those were working. I also tried the horn. Not working either. Well, ok. It was about 6pm, and we had 2-3 hours to get home. I decided that we just had to go for it. (I didn't want to stay in PA when Jemma was sitting in her box, and I don't have spare clothes. )We will avoid the highway because I didn't want anyone crashing into me. It was a race against time. We were flying down Rt. 1 and when we got to Bel Air the street lights started coming on. We got onto the side streets just in time. As we're cruising the side streets, I'm riding right in Ed's blind spot so that a car will be able to see his front lights, and my tail lights. It was so scary. A police man passed us going the other way, and I thought sure he was going to see me and turn around. Lucky for me, he probably just saw Ed's headlight and didn't see me at all. Phew! We made it back to my house safely.
Yesterday, I went to work on my bike, and all the wires looked ok. I was jiggling this one and that one, and checking out the wiring diagram and nothing seemed out of place. I finally decided to turn on the key (the lights come on when you turn the bike on), and THEN jiggle wires. Duh..hee hee. I finally found out that the horn wire was the problem. The wire hooks into a plastic casing, and another wire connects to the opposite plastic casing. Well, right where the horn wire fits, there is rust or corrosion. If you push the wire in, the lights/horn work, if you wiggle it a little, none of the lights work. So..today, I am going to get a small brush and see if I can remove the rustiness/corrosion/any associated gunk that's in there. If it works, I will be so happy. I have a ride planned for Labor Day Monday and I don't want my bike to be in the shop for what might be the last holiday weekend. Keep your fingers crossed!
