The Written Word

With everyone sending emails and talking by computer, instant messages, text messages etc..you would think that people would be able to understand the written word a little bit better. For those that don't know, the Korean men's gymnastics team is trying to protest against Paul Hamm's all around gold medal stating the the judging body incorrectly scored teh Korean's parallel bar routine. I was on a website that I frequent and asked a man if he would want someone's sweaty gold medal after someone else had worn it and listened to their national anthem. The response I got was that the Chinese were ahead in the medal counts and that he hadn't seen the Chinese doing that much in these Olympics. WHAT?! Did he not even read what I wrote? Where did I say anything about the Chinese or their medal count?

Another example of misunderstanding was when I sent a few pictures to someone from the party I had last weekend. I told the person that I would be sending a few files of pictures because they were pretty big. I wrote "Here is the first set. More to come once I get them back from CVS." The response I got was "Do you have more pics coming?" Say what?!

I think with e-mails, and instant messaging people think they have to read things fast in order to reply fast. I think people need to slow down and reread their answers before they send them. Check to make sure you have answered all the questions in the letter, and then go on with your life. It's amazing how few people like reading books but they sure like reading text messages. When is text messaging lingo going to be on the SAT's? I'd surely fail. TTFN!
