Happy Mother's Day Mothers
I went to the Cross Street Market this afternoon to pick up two bunches of flowers for my mom and my grandmother. The florist stand was packed. Actually there are two right across from each other, and one was almost out of flowers (they had hanging flowers), and the other still had a variety, but the line was just really long. I looked for some nice random arrangements, but nothing caught my eye. I considered buying some closed flowers in hopes that they will open over the course of the week, but I thought that was pretty lame.
I ended up getting two bunches of poofy flowers. They said 'footballs' on the bin, but they don't look like footballs. They look like puffy flowers, but they are pretty. I guess no one wanted them. That's where I love the fact that I dance to the beat of a different drum. No roses or carnations from me. No way. [Some people were buying the roses with brown rims (heh heh), just to show they love their mom and care by buying her the "expensive roses." Give me a break.] I can give the football flowers and everyone will love them. I got a white bunch and a yellow bunch. I haven't decided who gets which one. I'll play it by ear tomorrow.
So while I was in line at the store, the lady behind me was talking about all the stuff she's getting for her mom. A dozen roses (in a box because it's 5 bucks extra. She did say that. I kid you not.), some money, a card and she's making dinner. For one second, I thought 'hmmm..I'm not giving money or a card. I'm giving flowers and bringing bread and salad to dinner. Am I cheap?' Then I stopped thinking like that becuase the answer is a resounding YES! hee hee. My mom knows I love her, and the flowers are fine. I'm going to visit and that's what she loves. My family isn't materialistic, and I think if I showed up with all that stuff, my mom would definitely question what was going on.
So, to all the moms, have a wonderful Mother's Day, and I hope you get some flowers other than roses. Then you'll know your kids REALLY care.
