Marketing at its best

My boyfriend Ed is a total sucker for advertisements. Ever since I met him, he has been oohing and aahing over almost every commercial that's on tv. First, let me preface this by saying he's a huge tv/movie fan, so he's in front of the tv a lot. I'd rather play on the computer or read a book, but he likes the tele. If there is a commercial for Jeep flying out of a volcano and then driving away, he's like 'that's a great jeep! It's so powerful.' Then, if the Eggland Best egg commercial comes on he says 'I have to try those eggs. They've been showing a lot of commercials for them. They must be good.' Every single commercial he sees, he has to have that item, right then and there. I just laugh because who really falls the commercials? There is one on now with Suze Orman, the financial guru. She talks about how if you buy one GM car, you can get your next GM car at the same either low or zero interest rate. No matter when you buy it, etc.. So Ed says 'that's a great deal! I should get a GM so that the next one I buy, I can get 0% interest.' Here's my take on the commercial. I see Suze walking through the bank talking about how great the deal is. Then, she steps outside and there is a Chrysler of some sort parked right in front of the bank. She walks past the car and off to the side of the screen mumbling something about smart money. Now, I see Suze, the financial advisor, walking AWAY from the car. If it's that great of a deal, how come she doesn't get in the car and drive away in it? She doesn't believe in the product. She probably has a Corolla in the next parking space, or she's parked in some free parking lot somewhere. See...I know there is a trick. You probably have to buy a GM car within 5 years or so for the deal to be valid. If the car doesn't last more than 5 years, why should you buy it in the first place? AHA! I'm smarter than the people that made up the commercial. Beware of the tricky advertisements people. Everyone is out to get you!!!!!!

Thanksgiving-the abridged version

I already discussed my Black Friday experience, but now I will make a quick mention of my Thanksgiving. It turned out wonderfully. Those in attendance were my mom, older sister, grandmother, my brother, my sister's boyfriend and Ed. Jemma and Loki (low-key) were there for moral support and/or food scraps. Although my dad wasn't there this year, we'll see him at Christmas. It was kind of weird sitting there without him being at the head of the table, but we still got our eat on. HA!!HA!!

I brought cranberry sauce and made an awesome fruit salad. Yes, I even included the expensive strawberries at 4.99/package. What a rip off, but it made my family members happy. We also had ham, turkey, candied sweet potatoes, broccoli salad, collard greens, macaroni and cheese, bread, sparkling pear cider AND sparkling grape cider (my mom went all out this year!), stuffing, gravy and it seems like I'm missing something, but I can't think of what it is. I was surprised that we didn't have mashed potatoes, but that's ok. For dessert, we had two options-a chocolate meringue tort type thing and sugar free apple pie for my grandmother. It tastes awesome though, so don't feel like you can only eat it if you're diabetic. :)

After we stuffed our faces, the "kids" sat down to a game of Spades. I told Ed 'I've never played cards with you, but I would like to tell you two things. One, please keep your eyes on the cards, because once we start playing, there is no discussing the game until our hands are empty, and two, I like to win. You have to play to win.' I think I made my point. We were in the hole for a few rounds, but we came back swinging and won. We played to 500 because we were having fun, and I wanted to give my sister a chance (NOT!). It ruled.

Once dinner was over, Loki, Jemma, Ed and I returned to my house and just slept and watched the Bondathon. It was a great day. Hope everyone else had such a wonderful holiday. It sucked going back to work today and I decided I could only stand a 1/2 day. The extra vacation was well worth it, but that's our secret bloggers. If anyone asks, I was there until 3:35. Let's say I even worked 5 minutes overtime. *wink wink.

I hate you Kohls!!

Today was the big shopping day, as most of you know. The day after Thanksgiving is probably the biggest shopping day of the year, and that's why they call it Black Friday. You know, all bad, miserable things are associated with the word black. That's a given.
So today Kohls had this sale from 5:30-12, where you can get the best deals on the items in the store, blah blah. I woke up at 5, put my clothes on, and took the dogs out. I'm dogsitting for my sister, and her dog and my dog absolutely LOVE playing with each other. It's Christmas for them every time they see each other. Anyway, I took them out, closed the door, and drove to Kohls. I got to the store and the parking lot was packed. The doors were already open, so at least I didn't have to wait in line. As of right now it's 32 degrees outside. BRRRR...And, it's 6am. I go inside and see a worker. I asked where the electronics are, and he said they are in the back corner. I meander like a cow following the herd to the electronics, and there is one of those islands with 5 cameras on it, at the very top of the shelf. Well, I wanted to get 2 dvd players for my sisters. People are grabbing the last of the cameras, so I walk around the corner to see where the DVD players are. I end up in the toy section and people are yelling about what type of toys they want for their kids. Give me a break. I don't understand how (enter some toy I don't know about) can be so popular, but it is, apparently.
I hear people saying that the DVD players are gone. Fine, I'm out. I walk by some lady with two and I asked her where she got them. She said..oh wait, she yelled 'They were on that island thing with the cameras. SORRY.' Of course, I thought to myself 'why are you sorry? You already got two, you greedy, loud lady!' So I left the store. I can't believe the stores have these big sales, and only put say 50-100 dvd players and it's first come first serve. No rainchecks. So, while others were getting sucked into the trap of shopping at Kohls, I left the store. Why don't they have the sale from 5:30-5:32. No one cares about the other stuff in the store, but those people love to shop no matter where they are. I got back to my car at 5:40. Yes, 5:40 I was back at my car, driving home. I'm guessing I probably got there at 5:32, and all the people that waited in line were able to get the DVD players first. Screw them and screw Kohls. I hate that store anyway. I don't mind trying to get a deal and get my shopping done at one time, but I don't need it. I'll pay the extra 20 bucks for a nicer DVD player for my sisters.
On a happier note, I got home about 5:50, and what am I greeted to when I get home. Two dogs that are very thirsty for water, and their necks are all wet. At least they had free reign to run and play for an hour while I was pretending to be shopping. It's now 6:09, they're tired, I'm angry, but at least I can write my blog. Black Friday was a success for me, because now I am back in the confines of my house, with two dogs, and tons of leftovers. Happy Black Friday everyone. Don't get killed or maimed trying to get the best deal out there. HA!

Today is a Quiet Day

My last boyfriend used to talk and talk and talk and talk. I couldnt' do anything. I would try to watch shows that he liked just so he would be quiet, but it never worked. I would play games on the computer so he could see that I was busy, yet he still talked. I would make phone calls to my friends and/or mom so that he would see I was on the phone and be quiet, but that never worked either. I was a prisoner in my own house and could never have a silent moment in my own house. It was horrible. Once he left, I had complete silence in my house and I loved it. I just now starting listening to the radio or cd's again every now and again. I have started watching tv again, but my computer is still on mute. For the year 2003, all my dog and I heard were my fingers clicking on the keyboards, a doorbell every now and again, and her collar jingling on her neck. Oh, I guess we heard my cell phone ring too.

Anyway, today that there are only a few people at work, I feel like being quiet. I don't want to bother with the typical Thanksgiving conversations and blah blah blah. I think i'll just sit here and surf the internet, complete my blog and read about what others are doing. It's just a mellow day for me. I'm hoping that they send out an announcement that we're closing at noon. That would be great because I plan on leaving at noon anyway. It's not like anyone's getting any work done. That's the beauty of using your vaction time during the summer. Everyone else takes off during the holidays so you can choose to sit here in silence, or leave early because no one is even here to notice whether you're gone or not, and most assume you'll be off too. They don't remember the two-three weeks you were off during the summer months. It's great. I don't think I will ever take off during Thanksgiving and Christmas week again. Besides it's cold and there's nothing to do at home anyway except catch up on Oprah and Judge Milian on people's court. hee hee.

So today, let's all be quiet for at least one minute and reflect on how nice silence can be. I appreciate silence and I'm glad I can be silent when I feel like it. It's great.
PS. Happy Thanksgiving.

This is a website to give your name or your nickname a slogan. It's pretty cool. Try it out.
My first one was 'Yo Quiero Peachy.' HA!!HA!!

I Lied to Myself

I have a saying (what else is new?), 'If it doesn't make me happy, I'm not doing it.' Well, the question now is why can't I stick to my word? I'm a flipflopper, a disgrace to my own being, a useless twit. hee hee. That's going a little far.

Last week Ed told me that he had to help his family friend Paula and her new girlfriend move into their apartment. Ed has a van, so he always gets stuck moving people and carting things all over town for his relatives, friends, etc.. So then he tells me that the family friend is 50 (a guess), and her new girlfriend is 21. Fine, whatever. The 21 year old will do most of the work and we'll just carry the heavy stuff. They have both lived in SC for a few years, but Paula is from here, so she has her stuff in storage. I figure it can't be that much, and I'll go along for the ride. It's not a big deal. Well, let me just tell you that it sucked!

I hope you are a prepared for a pretty lengthy story, because here it is. We get to the storage place at 8:30. Paula is sitting outside of the storage area waiting on us. It seems strange to me that the storage area is open 24 hours, yet she's waiting out front for us, but cool. We go in and head up to her square. The square is packed with stuff, and I think that it's going to take us a while. We start piling up her stuff and then Ed asks if that cart can go in the car. Paula says 'well, we just got back from SC last night, and didn't get a chance to unpack the car.' WTF? How do you expect to move everything if you don't even have space? Whatever. Ed tells me she's wacko, and just stop making faces at the girl and Paula. hee hee. Me? Make faces. No way. So Ed, Paula and I pack most of the stuff in the van, while the girl sits near the car smoking and "watching" the stuff. When I say watching, I mean watching. She didn't pack a thing. I tried to give her little tasks before I beat her up because she was lazy, and she obliged, but why do I have to tell her what to put in the car? Ed had to tell them to move their pimpin' seats up so he could get more stuff in the car. That was funny. We finally get to the apartment and Paula says something about 'oh, I thought I lived on the first floor and had a patio door.' She told Ed the other day that the move wouldn't be bad because we could go from the car to the patio and into the apartment. Well, Paula lives on the second floor. How did she not know where she lived, you ask? I ask the same question. So Ed and I are moving stuff in double time and they are walking as slow as molasses. The girl is rearranging the three boxes that are in her room so she doesn't have to walk outside and carry two broomsticks. She's 21 and had absolutely no energy. Well, she had energy to smoke a million cigarettes, but no energy to move her new girlfriend's things. She wasn't happy about being in a new place with a new person. She wasn't happy to start a new life. She was just a miserable little girl with no direction.

Ok breathe...Ed had a headache so on trip two, we tell them to finish unpacking the car, we'll run to 7-11 and meet them back at the storage area. Done deal. We get back to the storage area and this time they are inside the storage area, but the bay door isn't open and they haven't even thought about starting to get more stuff. Ed is screaming about it to me in the car, and we're stuck outside the storage area because we don't have the code. Ed honks the horn (HA!!HA!! I'm laughing at how ridiculous they are), and Paula comes strolling to the gate. We go inside once again and guess what? The backseat of the car STILL isn't unloaded. Ed's really getting mad now, and I'm just laughing on the inside. Once again, we pack up, get back to their house and it's a deja-vu all over again. What a day!

The saddest part about this whole story is that Paula and this chicky are just two lost souls. The girl left her family (not sure of that whole story) and everything at age 21 to move in with a 50 year old. She doesn't have a driver's license, nor does she have any type of skills except smoking and cussing. From the looks of her, she doesn't have a toothbrush either. Half her teeth were missing and she had a grumpy face on most of the time. I don't know what she plans to do except live off Paula, but that's the life of a gypsy. She said she moved every 6mos. of her life, so I think it's fair to call her a gypsy. I guess living with someone is better than living alone. Especially if they will provide food, clothes, shelter, and some good lovin' when you need it. I will also say that I don't know many lesbians, but out of the few that I have met, they aren't the brightest of the bunch, nor are they very stable. Maybe I should have asked if they had some good drugs. I just didn't see the attraction, but I did see my hard workin' man today. YAY!! He made me proud. ok...i got sappy at the end, but at least I'm done moving people. THAT MAKES ME HAPPY.

Birds of a Feather

The saying 'birds of a feather, flock together' is usually true, I've found out. The dumb girl on the mean website is now gone. Not because of me (well..no guarantees on that), but because she just isn't smart. Poor girl with child. She doesn't understand some of the words that we used when talking to her like 'passive aggressive' or 'peasant.' Now, I don't KNOW that she doesn't understand them, but when she replied to someone that used a "big word", her reply didn't even address what the other person was talking about.

The majority of the people on the website are professionals who have desk jobs and sit around "working" with the computer 8 hours a day. They are well-read, opinionated, and smart, but are still able to enjoy silly movies, play video games, and carry on with life like everyone else. The difference between being smart and being dumb, to me, is that you can adapt to a million situations. If you go to a Nascar race, you can hang with the best of them, and if you are at an inaugural ball, you can still mix and mingle with that crowd. People who are smart have done a lot of different things in their lifetime, have a lot of experiences, and aren't stuck in some sheltered life where they don't know anything but their backyard and the 5 friends they've had since kindergarden. It's really sad.

Again, I'm obviously not the smartest person in town, by any means, but I am glad that I moved around a lot, got to meet and talk to different types of people, and have been afforded many opportunities to do things that I never would have thought I would do. I guess I'll have to thank my parents. My mom and dad are both super smart!

I'm Mean and I Scare People

My phrase of the day is 'it's official.'
It's official, I'm mean and I scare people. I turned in a report for work yesterday, and today the little boss came over and said 'The big boss is scared of you.' I said 'why?' and she said 'I'm not sure, but he can never return these reports to you. He always calls me to pick them up and give them to you.' I don't mind this because I don't have to get up from my seat and I can sit here and read blogs all day. I wonder though. Why does he think I'm so scary? I'm not mean to him. I may not laugh at his jokes and I didn't go to his birthday lunch, but that's no reason to shy away from someone. I have always been a fan of the phrase 'it is better to be feared than loved', but I don't know how personally I have taken that phrase in my adult life. I have let people take advantage of me in the past, and I have vowed to not let it happen again. So far, so good.

Here comes the mean part. I don't think I'm mean. I can be mean and spiteful when I want to be, but I try not to be very often. I go to a website where the whole gist is to be mean to people. It was hard for me at first because I didn't know these people, and I felt bad. They have become my online friends, and I have met a couple of them in person. There are probably 10 guys on this site, and then me and another girl. One thing we have in common is that the guys and I ride motos. The other girl doesn't but we made her part of a Schwinn bike club, so she's in. About a week ago, two new girls showed up on the site. They are both hookers (to put it nicely). They asked for a private folder so that they could show naked pics, and the boys complied. As much as these boys have asked me for pictures, I have never shown them one of me naked. A tank top and jeans is as good as it gets. I don't even own any naked pictures of myself, let alone show them. So, I ended up picking on the girls, and they were really offended. I didn't even bring out the big guns. I was just taking jabs here and there and they were really upset. I don't know if they are just insecure and think that they have to show naked pics in order for people to like them or what, but it just makes me laugh. The boys always think that I am jealous because the attention has been taken away from me, but they are never mean to girls. I guess I never got upset or mad when they were trying to be mean to me, because I understood the concept. I uess I was worthy of sticking around. Maybe I should feel bad about talking about how the girl is unhappy with her fake tits, and how she is a single mom on welfare. Nah...that would be too nice. The goal of the site is to be mean, and I am the one you should be afraid of. :)

The Case of the Money Mystery-SOLVED

Well, I guess the rightful owner of the 3000 dollars found their money in my account. Today is such a sad day. I would have never spent it anyway, because if they found it a year from now, I'd be screwed, and have to take my retirement money out of my bank to pay someone. So..while it was fun thinking about what I would do, it was all a nice dream. Thanks for your concerns and your letters (HA!!HA!!). If anyone does have a spare 3k, I'd be more than happy to hold onto it for you.

According to my account I made 6 bucks on this transaction, so it is a win-win. I think I'll treat myself to some Ruby Red grapefruit juice. I think there's a sale 2 for 5 this week.

Don't See The Grudge

On Saturday afternoon, I went to see the movie "The Grudge" with Ed. I was nervous about going because it was my first scary movie in the theatre. I don't really like scary movies because I can't really enjoy them. I sit on the edge of my seat waiting to get scared by every creaky door, and cat meowing behind a closet.

This movie was Rated PG13. I should have known then that it wasn't going to be that scary. A group of 6 teenaged girls sat next to us in the row, and they were giggling and screaming the entire time. I haven't been to the movies in forever, and I guess those girls are always at the movies, but they convinced me not to go back anytime soon. They were just really, really, annoying.

Needless to say, the movie just wasn't very good. It just ended and nothing really exciting or scary happened. It was a very simple story, which is good, I guess, but there was just something missing. I was ready to throw popcorn at people, and scream and yell and hide my eyes. Most of the time, I was laughing or just chomping on my candy until the next scary part came along. I wouldn't recommend this movie. I give it two thumbs down.

3000 big ones!

This morning I was looking at my bank account statement, and it seemed like the screen was just a touch different. Well, I looked in my account and it showed a deposit of 3018 dollars! I don't have 3000 dollars!!!!

Ok ok, what am I going to do if it's really mine and not a mistake? I can't believe my wintertime fortune! This is great. I guess I would go to the Superbowl this year. I think it's in LA. That would rule. I would book a ticket on Southwest Airlines, and stay with a friend. That way I can party hardy while there. Oh wait..I always wanted some small diamond earring studs just so that I don't have to worry about putting on earrings ever again..No..i think I want to go to the Grand Canyon. Hmmm..so many choices, so little time.

Maybe I will send my money to someone who needs it. That's probably more my style. I never spend money on myself. Ok. 1000 to someone who needs it and the rest on me and my future.
I'm like a kid in a candy store..I'll take one of every kind of jellybelly except popcorn and licorice please. What to do, what to do. I guess it's good that I think about it now because I know by tomorrow, the money will be gone. *sigh*. What a way to start off a Sunday. Go Chiefs, Go Ravens!! Ed Hoculie likes a girl with money I bet. Come and get me Ed. HA!!HA!!

Headlights

No guys..i'm not talking about tits. Not this time anyway. :) I cannot stand those people who are driving around with the high intensity light bulbs in their cars. First, the SUV's already sit higher than my Corolla, and your lights are blaring me in my mirror. I can't stand driving with other people on the road. On top of being a tall car, why do you need those high intensity lights in you cars? so you can see the road better? Is that why you do it? I have a motorcycle, and yes, I ride with my high beam on, but that's because if I don't you won't see me and you'll run me over. But, if you are in the Lexus SUV, we already see your big ass! Turn down your lights and have some courtesy. Now that it is daylight savings time, it gets dark around 5, and if I choose to leave my house, I get blinded. So...today marks another day of being a hermit for me. People don't understand why I don't want to hang out when it's cold and dark. Well, this is reason #3. Aside from it being 1) cold 2) dark and 3) I can't see, there's absolutely no reason for me to be out there.

Good luck everyone and have a safe weekend.

Thanks!

For all those that have read my story about my trip to TX, behind the scenes, I just wanted to say thanks. You guys really embarrass me when you say that it's a great story, or you enjoyed reading it etc..I just like to write these stories as a way to share my travels with others that don't have the opportunity, or aren't able to put their thoughts into words or what have you. Knowing that when I return and have a story to write, I try to focus on my surroundings so that I can express those things in my stories.

Ok..this is mushy enough. Just wanted to say thanks again, and I can't wait to see what next year brings. More adventures on the way.

Trouble in Paradise

I have been reading other blogs here and there, and I think it's interesting that people share these writings with their boyfriends, significant others, family etc..I think of this as my space. I don't really care who reads it (that doesn't know me), but I don't really get into specific specifics about my life because I don't want certain people to know certain things about me in case things do get into the wrong hands. I think of this as my little place on the internet where I can talk about what I want and when I want. People may comment, but it's certainly not going to affect my life in the long run. I definitely think about what's been said, and perhaps even contemplate, but honestly-whatever. You have your opinions and I have mine.

Maybe you think I am a sad individual that thinks that I have so many secrets that I don't want others to be let into my private world, but that's the way it works. If I wanted the world to know everything about me, I'd share it. Otherwise, I will keep it inside my own head or in another little place on the internet. I guess I'm just not that open.

It's Story Time

When I get a chance, I write stories for anyone who wants to read them. As of today, my trip report from Texas (May 30-June 12) is now posted on one of my favorite motorcycle websites. The website is www.motorcyclecity.com, and at the top of the page, you'll see something that says "Peachy's Texas Trip Report." I hope you like it.

Do You Know This Person?

There are a couple people that I work with that I would like to talk about today. One lady is obsessed with the color purple. Every day she has on 20 different things in 20 shades of purple. My favorite colors are purple and green, but she takes it to the extreme. I guess it's a good thing that she is so into it because her friends and family can get her anything purple and she will like it. I'm telling you, this lady has purple shoes, socks, earrings, glasses, scarves, shirts, sweaters, bracelets, necklaces, etc..Then, you walk into her office and she has purple pens, notebads, mirrors, flowers, mardi gras beads (he he he), and notebooks just to name a few. Even the area where she works has been painted purple because she is a long time worker here and that's how they say 'thanks' to her. It's unreal.

Another person here is a man that works in the next building over. I don't know how I picked up on this, but somehow I did, and I haven't been proven wrong yet. Every single day, this guy wears a blue button down shirt and khaki pants. We don't have a required uniform here, which is a good thing. The dress code is business casual. Now I'm a little more casual than business, but I haven't been fired yet, so I guess that's ok. I am more like business comfy. hee hee. I guess if you wear the same thing every day you don't have to worry about what to wear. Should I wear this blue shirt, or this blue shirt? This pair of khakis or, oh, I know, this pair of khakis. Now we're talkin'. It's just an interesting thing I've noticed over a year. I guess his friends and family are happy also. Blue shirt-check, khakis-check!

Thoroughly Modern Millie

A while back, I was talking about a lady named Millie, and my coworker asked me if she was thoroughly modern. I had no idea what he was talking about, so Yankeebob and I looked it up and found out that "Thoroughly Modern Millie" was an award winning musical. It just so happened that this show was coming to Baltimore so I got tickets. I went to see the show last Tuesday at the Hippodrome. The Hippodrome is a theater that was built in 1914, closed some time after that, and was remodeled and restored this past February. I figured since I hadn't been to a show in a long time, and I would be spending money in downtown Baltimore it would be a perfect opportunity to get out of my house.

The show was excellent. The patrons didn't seem snobby to me at all, and the theater was nice and really clean. I think there are plans to decorate a little more as the walls were quite bare, but the painting and the architecture throughout the building is just amazing. You can do a search for the show if you're interested. I won't bore you with the details, but I'm so happy I went. If you haven't gotten a chance to see a musical live in the theater, it is something you won't regret. No matter how boring or bad you think the show will be, it won't be. They keep it interesting for all people and all ages.

Secret Secret

Tonight I had class. I was too freaked out to go to the garage (I never bought those mouse traps) and get my bike, so I drove. That's neither here nor there.

During class, my teacher was talking about buying a refurbished car and getting a discount on it. The dealers refurbish the car and then sell it. I learned that they have to disclose the reason they are selling it as a refurbished car (battery acid on the front fender, small ding in the quarter panel, etc..), and this comes in mighty handy. Who knew?
I am not the richest girl, but I know that rich people always find these gems and either keep them to themselves, or share them with their other rich friends. I need to find these circles!

I can't say that my teacher is rich, because I don't know. He's a CPA, and he always talks about doing the books for the MTA (Maryland Transportation Authority), and other large businesses. It's a night class, so I'm sure he works during the day, and teaches class at the community college for some reason or another. I think he's probably a big whig in his circles, but that's just the way he presents himself.

My duty to all of you is to share this tidbit of information in hopes that I can help someone get a deal on their car, or some other large purchase that they make. My other tidbit of advice is to either try to find someone that's rich or at least wise, and learn something from them. Take advantage man, take advantage.

Election 2004

I was debating as to whether I should even write something about the election, but then I decided that I should put in my two cents along with everyone else.

I went to my polling place yesterday after work. The neighborhood that the school is in is a little secluded and out of the way, so when there were tons of cars turning onto the street, I knew they were there to vote. One lady, was trying to get across 3 lanes of traffic in order to get into the proper lane. She was driving about 2mph also. I was two cars behind her on the exit ramp of the highway, so I totally laid on the horn. If you can't merge, it's not my problem. Get out of my way. So I tried to get around her, but she was literally perpendicular to traffic trying to cut across the lanes. I went straight insted of turning left and made a uturn up the street. Then she saw me, and decided that maybe she should do the same thing. I'm now racing this lady to get to the school before she does. I pull into the parking lot, walk inside, show my id, vote, get back in my car and she was just now pulling up to the school. All I could do is laugh. People are funny. HA!!HA!!

There were about 10 booths in my polling location, and only 8 of them were full when I went in. There were a couple people in the lines where you check in, but no one was in my line. YAY!! I was dreading going to the polls because I hate waiting in line, so I was happy when everything was free and clear.

I'm not saying who I voted for, I will just say that I'm glad I voted. May the best man win.

A Quote I Like

'I don't think the future is anything spectacular compared to the present.' -me

I was sending emails back and forth with a friend today and he was talking about his fairly new relationship. I don't know the specific details but maybe they have been together for 3 or 4 months, if that. He was telling me that last night he and his girlfriend (I guess) had talked about some serious issues last night, and he was dreading seeing her today because they might have to continue the talk. I suggested that it's really too soon to discuss the future unless she has some things that she doesn't like about him, or things concerned her and maybe that's why he was dreading it. I told him that they are both young, and it's not like their biological clocks are ticking and they are getting old. I told them to enjoy the fun that they are having now and not worry about what tomorrow will bring. Enjoy hanging out now and see where things go. He liked my advice. :)

Now, to my quote. I also included that in the email, and the more I think about it, the more I like it. I guess because the future is not a guarantee. You don't know that down the road you will be married, with 3 kids, a dog and a picket fence and perfectly happy. You can only live for today and be happy with what you have today. My quote could be changed to say that the past was something spectacular compared to today, but that's not what I said. I said the FUTURE. I didn't say that you should squander everything away because the future's not guaranteed and you should live for the moment, but there is really no telling what could happen. I could break both of my legs today and never ride my motorcycle again. That would suck, but I'm not going to dwell on it. I feel like this is sort of a pessimistic post, but in a way it's not. I was so happy watching the leaves changing on Saturday. Today, I was happy that I had an extra hour of sleep. I'm definitely going to appreciate my days a little more. Each day I wake up will be spectacular!
